Trillions of Prisms

Description: Every moment offers a different view. Every atom of air and water comprises trillions of prisms that bend, refract, twist and reflect light. The shorter wavelength is violet, and the longer is red.

It is hard to believe that in the entirety of nature, there are only three primary colors; blue, red, and yellow, and all other colors are derived from some combination of these colors.

Absolute white has no color, and total black is all colors.

The most impressive display of prisms at work is sunsets, each being wildly different in color, hue, intensity, and duration.

We’re on this spinning sphere that rotates up to block out the sun with the sky exploding to prismed colors with the promise of darkness.

Mere art can only give us a brief sliver of appreciation for the grandeur of our setting star and its prism skies.

Even though any painting (and photograph) can only capture a fraction of the sunset’s brilliance, it is satisfying to interpret it on a large canvas with big paint and brushes with a carefree attitude. There are no wrong depictions of sunsets, either actual or in our imaginations.
