Long Shadows at Balboa Park
Description: In late November our art class visited an art show at Balboa Park. The day was super clear and warm and twilight comes quickly this time of year. As we walked out of the show we cast very long shadows and because it was so clear our shadows seemed like extensions of ourselves. I took my phone out and popped a picture which I subsequently painted. Now, not to be critical of my work but there are a couple things I have discovered since this painting. First, the dominate color of grass is actually black. The area between the green blades is black, Secondly, shadows are not black. They are a darker shade of where the shadow is cast. In the case of grass, the shadow is a dark green. We tend to interpret shadows as being black and grass as being green.
